Fabulous non-traditional excursion! This was a truly amazing experience! We were an hour early for our meeting time, but Kevin arranged for Tania to come get us early, since we were the only ones on the excursion. She explained all the foods at the market and how to choose the right ones. We stopped and bought some pottery, which she advise was cheaper than at the port shops - and it was, about 1/3 of the cost! Then we went to Rancho Alejandra, where we did a tequila tasting with Manny, local organic tequilas. Neither of us were excited about tequila, but every one of them was so much better than what we are used to commercially. We ended up bringing 5 (+1 free) home between the two of us. Finally, Tania took us to the traditional family kitchen and made a ton of dishes, with us assisting. I can’t remember them all, but they were delicious. My favorite was the fried plantains, topped with shredded queso bola, crema, and sugar - not at all what we expected, but a scrumptious combination!
In addition to the tequila tasting, we had a cazuelita margarita and a mango margarita, both of which were very good’s
Tania was an amazing hostess and chef, super friendly and engaging. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to get away from the traditional touristy excursions and into some of the culture of Cozumel!
