One caution: getting into and out of the Jeep can be tricky so it’s not the best option if you have mobility difficulties. Otherwise seeing the island in an open air car was perfect. read less

Tomas was a native to Cozumel and was very versed in the history, driving habits, ins and outs of the island. He drove and I’m glad of it, streets on the town side are narrow and busy.
We did the tequila tasting stop, which was informative and they pitch you a special blend of tequila specific to a special region of Mexico noted for its tequila but it was a bit pricey for the tequila non-connoisseur. We made a few historical stops and just general sight seeing. We conversed along they way about life on the island, family, etc, things that added a bit of color to the tapestry that is Cozumel.
We stoped on the ocean side of the island at a little road side cabana/ bar. That side of the island faces the open ocean and gets a lot of wave action and has some interesting rugged rock and old coral formations. We had a short layover for exploring. I tried the Mojitos, with fresh ground mint. It was good but a little too heavy on the mint for me (if that’s possible). Sea weed was absolutely horrible and really put a damper on anything remotely close to the surf or the tour would probably be a five out of five, but that’s not really something under the tour operators control. It’s more of a seasonal problem, which is apparently late summer.
We went to the calm side of the island and did some snorkeling. More smooth old rock formations and old coral on this side so the beach adventure may not be satisfactory but the water is exceptionally clear and seaweed free. Lots of fish and live coral. Good spot for novice snorkelers. Tortugas served up some pretty tasty fajitas and quesadillas, we added some drinks and fresh guacamole (which was fantastic actually). Lunch was included but be aware of add-ons, remember your in a tourist destination and there’s usually an up charge for everything so be specific on cost and you’ll avoid unpleasant gotcha’s.
Overall it was a nice outing. read less

You go to a super market and learn what to pick & what might be comparable ingredients in the US to make the meals. After a quick stop at the store you go to a local home and start cooking!
We made tacos al pastor, salsa, guacamole, friojoles charros (a bean soup) and special margaritas. Everything was amazing. I don’t even really like margs but I loved these! That must be why they are special, lol. We’ve even made them at home !
They give you all the recipes are provided after class and it’s a hands on class so don’t think it’s a sit and watch thing. You help make what you eat!
If you’re debating about this don’t! Just do it! Especially if you are a taco lover and or want a little change of non-tourist pace.

Sergio was Awesome, We discussed what we wanted to do and were we wanted to go. WE went to the other side of the island and stopped a few spots for great pictures. We stopped at small Bar and had great drinks and Salsa. We explored town some and drove to some really quiet places giving us a unique perspective of live on the island. The tourist industry, especially the cruise lines there is the livelihood and Covid hit them Hard. We felt safe at all times and felt like we were part of a family with our tour Guide. He even stopped and let us do a little shopping for our Hotel room. read less

Overall, we felt very safe and enjoyed it all. Especially since we had such a great guide who was attentive to all our requests and made sure we had a great time. No COVID concerns at all. Lots of hand sanitizer and masks. read less
